The purpose of this article is to investigate some of the ways in which the fiction of Las sergas de Esplanditin represents the Medieval and Mediterranean Spanish myths that inspired discoverers, conquistadors, missionaries, and map makers to create a vision so powerful that it remains the central myth underlying the common cultural heritage of all contemporary Californians.
