  • This paper, after examining the existing commercial airport system of the Greater Los Angeles Region in the context of rapidly rising demand for air transportation, describes major proposals to expand the system, evaluates them in terms of their economic, environmental, and political viability, and seeks to explain the failure to implement them. In conclusion, we recommend an airport strategy which would prov:ide at least a short-term palliative to the airport capacity crisis within the region.
