  • The Tulare Basin's former ability to support unusually dense populations of California aborigines (known as Yokuts) has long been recognized by anthropologists. This consensus is based upon historical observation, ethnographic inquiry, and the recognition that the Tulare Basin (here defined as the Valley portion of Tulare and Kings Counties) once offered a cornucopia of resources for its prehispanic inhabitants.
