Dolly parts

My art is a representation of my feelings about certain women in this society. I have chosen to illustrate the women whose lives are knowingly manipulated by fashion. The areas I have investigated are their dictated posture, body adornment, and leisure activities that relate to the personalities that they want to project. I have found their decisions, which are influenced by the media and by following the idealized image of women that the media conveys, could lead to restricted internal growth. The power of fashion to direct women’s lives is represented by my life-size dolls. These dolls confront women with a mirror image of themselves by their size and appearance (refer to figure #1) they illustrate, by the use of clothing, make-up, and environment, the idealized image of beauty that the media has portrayed. This image is one of perfection. Women strive for the perfect figure, clothing, hair style, and appearance which controls their lives.
