A career development program for entertainment studio employees

There are several foundational characteristics of the entertainment industry that create challenges for employees working in major studios: barriers to occupational entry, lack of transitional opportunities and a political, nepotistic environment. Consequently, these issues prevent individuals from successful career growth and development. This population is in need of increased job stability and technologically-advanced creative training programs. The proposed job shadow program was designed to address the specific career needs of this population. The characteristics of and the issues facing this population are outlined in detail, and several career theories are discussed, creating a framework for the proposed program. Existing programs, both within and outside of the entertainment industry, are evaluated and critiqued. The job shadow program sessions are presented in detail and additional support materials are provided in the appendices.
