Enhancing treatment outcomes of in-home Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs: an examination of parent experience and inservice for professionals

There is convincing evidence that home based applied behavior analysis (ABA) programs offer an effective form of treatment for young children on the autism spectrum. Recently, researchers have begun to focus their studies on examining the impact on the family, and exposing factors that predict the success or failure of these programs. Recognizing these obstacles to behavioral interventions, researchers can focus on factors that truly mitigate the success of ABA, in hopes of uncovering means to maximize therapeutic gains with children with autism. The current project emphasizes the importance of parental support and staff training to facilitate the necessary changes. Furthermore, the author presents a suggested action plan for training supported by an informational website developed to rebuild partnerships, maximize effectiveness, and maintain quality control in home-based intensive interventions.
