Changing girls attitudes towards STEM using PBL and technology: A research based professional resource guide for educators

This project is based on a STEM program for elementary school students aimed at changing the way girls feel about STEM. A review of literature that informs the project reveals that girls lack interest in STEM education and women are underrepresented in STEM fields. To change the attitudes of female students, a STEM program will involve 5th grade girls in STEM technology-based activities. These activities will incorporate project-based learning and high-interest, real-world topics to foster a more positive attitude towards STEM. This project has been designed to enable elementary school teachers to address the low representation of women in STEM careers by exposing school-aged girls to options that become available when they invest their efforts in STEM education.
