Mindfulness Training for Twice-Exceptional Adolescents

Twice-exceptional (2e) is still a relatively new term in the realms of education, counseling, and psychology. For 2e adolescents, college preparatory curriculum must include mindfulness training in order to assist with their ability to focus on psychological, social, and emotional regulation and development. By creating a mindfulness group for these adolescents, they will have a greater chance of succeeding in college because they will learn to develop these navigation skills in high school and practice them before they enter the collegiate world and the workforce. Skills that fall into categories of executive functioning and non-cognitive factors will be explored. This project will demonstrate mindfulness activities for twice-exceptional adolescents with ADHD in order for them to be able to stay in the struggles of education or the workplace more often and with greater success as sets of skills related to those successes are strengthened through mindfulness. A six session plan to explore breathing, walking, eating, observing, and body scan mindfulness is included.
