Mobile robot with range sensors

This graduate project report presents the design and development of a mobile robot with range sensors. The design resulted in an integration of mechanical, electronics, and computer engineering. The robot consists of mobile platform with two motors~ as its drive train and steering mechanism, ultrasonic transducers as its vision, and an Intel 8751 microprocessor as its central processing unit. It is designed to avoid any obstacle along the path of its travel by sensing the presence of the obstacles and changing its path. The mobile robot is powered by a rechargeable +12V Ni-Cad battery source. Since mobile robot design was based on a modularity concept, the system can be upgraded into a more complicated intelligent machine. The robot has been designed and built. Software was developed and implemented to control its operations. Test results indicated that. the robot performed properly as designed.
