A Business Case: Accessibility Preferences of Mobile Computing Devices

The business case for universal design of mobile computing devices is assessed from a market prospective using descriptive statistics. Survey data from consumers with sight impairments and active seniors are compared to determine if similarities exists between the perceptions and the accessibility preferences of the two groups. A total population of 300 respondents (150 per group) across the United States completed a Survey Monkey questionnaire. The survey instrument consists of categorical, behavioral, and perceptual questions where the latter two sections employ 7-level Likert items to quantify responses of subjective and objective statements. Results revealed a significant misconception seniors have regarding accessibility features and their use on mobile technology.
