Hardware Implementation of Real Time Musical Note Scanning Algorithm

Hardware implementation of applications is highly popular because of the high achievable operation speeds. The requirement for processing speed is extremely important in digital signal processing applications, and regarding this project, image processing applications. However, due to cost of design, implementation, manufacture and testing of custom hardware for applications, the development of hardware for small applications is not feasible. One way to overcome this disadvantage is to use programmable logic to implement hardware for custom applications. This is the approach taken for the design of hardware for a musical note recognition system. The design is implemented in the Zynq 7000 AP - SoC (All Programmable System on Chip) and developed using the Zedboard and Xilinx in the Vivado Design Suite - HLx Edition. The algorithm used for feature extraction from the images are custom developed for this application. The output of this system is the musical notes present in the scanned image of sheet music.
