SUBJECT: Update

The following is an update for CLRIT of the activities of the Information Competence Work Group.

Proposals

Five proposals were awarded in accordance with the goals established for information competence.

  1. "Developing Information Competencies: A model list, activities and assessment instrument".
    Awarded to Dominguez Hills for $10,000.
  2. "Information Competence for Business Students: A Self-Paced Course".
    Awarded to Sonoma, Chico, San Marcos for $18,209.
  3. "Information Competence: A Workshop Series for Area High Schools and Junior Colleges".
    Awarded to Northridge for $10,000.
  4. "Information Competence: A Workshop Series for High Schools".
    Awarded to San Marcos for $7,000.
  5. "Information Literacy. A Credit Course".
    Awarded to Sonoma for $10,000.

All of the proposals are expected to have deliverables which can be transported to any other campus.

Assessment

The Information Competence Work Group is developing a program to assess student information competence levels throughout the CSU. This study will give us valuable information about the information competence needs of students.

Collaboration

  1. University of California
    UC Librarians will be joining our Work Group at our May meeting to discuss collaboration.
  2. WASC/CARL
    Contact has been made with the California Academic and Research Libraries Association. This group is working with WASC to develop information competence standards.

A New Face

Dr. David Walch, former director of the San Luis Obispo Library, will be on partial reassigned time to assist the Work Group with growing projects and activities.

Dr. Walch's distinguished career and excellent reputation is a fine addition to our efforts.
