Whereas, Information Competence is the ability to recognize the need for information, and to evaluate, organize, interpret, and communicate information in all its formats; and

Whereas, Information Competence is essential for academic success, for vocational success and for lifelong learning; and

Whereas, demonstrated Information Competence skills should be required for the awarding of a degree in the CSU; and

Whereas, Information Competence should be included in instructional and support programs with the appropriate resources; and

Whereas, intersegmental articulation agreements over the skills and transfer of information competence courses and programs at CSU campuses, community colleges and high schools should occur; and

Whereas, students should be able to demonstrate appropriate level of Information Competence skills at the freshman and transfer level and at the upper division discipline level;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Council of Library Directors support, recommend and encourage the development and growth of information competence programs at all campuses.
