This study includes a groundwater recharge suitability assessment that analyzes the hydrogeology and surface water quality of the canyon areas located in the western San Fernando Valley. The 112,000-acre San Fernando Valley Hydrologic Basin encompasses 3,200,000 acre-feet of storage capacity within the Los Angeles River basin. The Upper Los Angeles River Area (ULARA) is fed by the tributaries within the project area. These tributaries drain into the Los Angeles River which then flows in a southeasterly direction and ultimately enters the Pacific Ocean in the Los Angeles Harbor area. (See more in text.)
