The Department of Cinema and Television Arts Self-Study provides an overview of the program consisting of a brief history followed by relevant background information since the last self-study. The report consists of 6 parts. Part I is an overview of the program curriculum and learning outcomes related to both undergraduate and graduate degrees offered. The undergraduate program confers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Cinema and Television Arts (CTVA) and offers the following options: Electronic Media Management, Film Production, Media Theory and Criticism, Multimedia Production, Radio Production, Screenwriting, and Television Production. The graduate program conferred a Master of Arts (MA) in Screenwriting until 2014-2015 AY. Beginning AY 2014-2015, the MA was replaced with a terminal Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Screenwriting. Part I also describes the Department’s instructional and support staff, the process used to develop the self-study, advisement, and service to the other campus programs. Part II provides information on campus climate in the Department. Part III discusses on-going assessment and strategic planning actions. Part IV covers key strengths and changes that emerged from Department discussions. Part V is a discussion of the previous Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Part VI includes the appendices of all referenced documents, as well as faculty vitae.

The self-study was signed and approved in January 2014. It covers changes made in the Department and the BA and graduate degree since the last self-study which was written in 2008. The report was developed thorough collaboration with faculty and staff in the Department, particularly option heads. It was also discussed during faculty meetings and a faculty retreat. Final approval was received from the Dean of the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication.
