The attitude of the deaf towards the deaf-blind

Although there has been a tremendous increase in the amount of assistance the deaf-blind are receiving, and attention is being focused on this badly neglected group of citizens, not much thought has been given as to where the deaf-blind fit into the existing structures of our society. A search of the literature reveals that practically nothing has been done regarding the attitude of people towards the deaf-blind. lt is the purpose of this study to determine the attitude and knowledge of deaf students at Gallaudet College towards the deaf-blind. The study will attempt to determine what deaf students know about the problems and potentials of the deaf-blind, and to determine their knowledge and attitude towards the deaf-blind in such areas as: 1. Love and Marriage. 2. Family Concerns. 3. Job Potential. 4. Education. 5. Communication. 6. Independent Living. 7. Friendships and Socialization. 8. Knowledge about the Deaf-Blind. 9. Self-Concept and Personal Feelings of the Deaf-Blind. 10. Personal Reactions to the Deaf-Blind.
