Representational roles of Latinx Characters on Primetime Television

This thesis examined seven primetime television shows on CBS to determine contemporary images of Latinx on television. A content analysis of the main character's gender, character's sexual orientation, actor's ethnicity, character's ethnicity, character's occupation, and the character's role were documented. Across the seven shows there were 35 main characters with many (2/3) of them being White heterosexual males. Thus, demonstrating that there continues to be a white centric view provided during primetime. While there were some Latinx characters (on average one per show), they tended to be supporting actors. Future research is discussed.
