Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Annual Assessment Report to the College 2016-2017

Abstract

The Electrical and Computer Engineering department 2016-17 annual assessment report to the College of Engineering and Computer Science for the Office of Academic Assessment and Program Review. Following its three-year cycle for student learning assessment—Assessment-Evaluation-Implementation—the department entered the first two semesters of its Implementation Phase in Fall 2016 and Spring 2017, with Fall 2017 scheduled for the conclusion of that loop-closing assessment activity. Tables describing the results of the direct assessment of 11 ABET-required SLOs and 5 ABET Performance Criteria in 2015 are included, along with the conclusion that, with a benchmark average outcome score set at 6/10, "all outcomes were met in each program." Five Program Improvement tasks are described, with tasks 2 (Offer PCB Workshops for Students [1st priority: ECE 492/493 students]) and 4 (Offer PCB Workshops for Students [1st priority: ECE 492/493 students]) reported as being completed, while task 1 (Develop and implement plan for revision of Senior Design [ECE 492/493]) is scheduled for implementation in the Fall 2017 semester, task 5 (Develop video tutorials for solving ECE 240 circuit problems) is in progress, and task 3 is to be begun sometime in AY 2017-18. Data gathering in Spring 2018 will inaugurate a new three-year assessment cycle.
