Psychoeducational support group for gay men who reside in West Hollywood: A 10-week group curriculum

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) community is a diverse, stigmatized, and underserved sexual minority group due to the barriers the community encounters when attempting to access appropriate health care. These barriers are further accentuated as a result of the limited training health care providers receive when striving to provide affirmative care to LGBTQIA people. Consequently, LGBTQIA individuals are more prone to mental health issues, and have specific health care needs than heterosexuals (King et al., 2008). Moreover, gay/bisexual men who live or frequent the city of West Hollywood have tailored needs that are specific to the city of West Hollywood. The purpose of this project is to identify the specific needs of gay/bisexual men of West Hollywood and to provide guidelines for mental health practitioners to use when facilitating a psychoeducational and support group curriculum for gay/bisexual men in West Hollywood.
