dc.description.abstract The All Undergraduate in Business programs' 2017-18 annual assessment report to the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics for the Office of Academic Assessment and Program Review. Following its assessment cycle, the Nazarian College assessed SLOs 4, 5, & 6, and closed the loop on its 2016-17 assessment findings for SLOs 1, 2, & 3. Direct assessments in SOM 306, BUS 497A, BUS 302L, FIN 303, MKT 304, SOM 306, & MGT 360 found students meeting or exceeding program benchmarks in all categories, with the exception of student performance on statistics exams in BUS 302L, where failure rates exceeded the 15% maximum applied as a benchmark. Indirect measures of student learning with respect to SLOs 4, 5, & 6 via course exit surveys indicate generally high levels of student satisfaction with their learning. Complete assessment procedures, including descriptions of assessment instruments and tables of direct and indirect assessment results are included in the report. Analysis of 2016-17 assessment of SLO 1 (written and oral communication skills) revealed no need for curricular intervention; weakness found in student learning with respect to SLO 2 (problem solving and critical thinking) in the area of "clearly justifying solutions" is being investigated by the College Curriculum Management and Planning Committee for possible curricular interventions; while changes to SOL 3 (ethics and social responsibility), along with "mixed results with how well students understand ethics and social responsibility, where students are able to develop strategies and identify ethical dilemmas, yet struggle somewhat with properly justifying solutions and/or courses of action," have led to the utilization of "BUS 302 to support the modifications to SLO 3 and formally include ethics and social responsibility in the introductory course to the core." Continuing its assessment cycle in 2018-19, the College will assess SLOs 1, 2, & 3 in 2018-19, while analyzing and closing the loop on its 2018-19 assessment results. en_US
