Mi Cancion Desespreda

[ABSTRACT ONLY; NO FULL TEXT] Mí Canción Desesperda is the self-exploration of a sexually confused Mexican American boy/man who is struggling to find happiness along with their place in world. The central idea of this piece plays with Gloria Anzaldúa's concept of existing in multiple worlds but not fully belonging to any of them. From being a closeted pansexual man raised by Catholic Mexican parents to being a first generation Mexican-American walking the streets of Jalisco, Mexico, a country it views as foreign, this piece goes on to explore different points of tension for the protagonist within these worlds. This piece illustrates how these points of tension affect the life of the protagonist. Issues of hybridity, or mixture, are also explored within the piece as the main character walks in and out of worlds on numerous occasions. The form of this piece itself is a mixture as Spanish and English clash together to tell this story. Within the story there will also be an exploration of how the outside world sees the protagonist and what this does to him. The piece also deals with being comfortable and accepting who one really is. Mí Canción Desesperda mostly utilizes lived experiences to draw its content. These lived experiences fuel the love stories found within it.
